Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Grant to Good River Partners Focused on Advancing Affordable Housing Solutions

[Los Angeles, CA] — Good River Partners, a mission-driven organization committed to ending the foster care-to-homelessness pipeline, has been awarded a grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) to research innovative financing models that can accelerate the development and acquisition of affordable housing.

The funding will support Good River Partners’ research into public and private loan guarantee programs. Such programs, wherein a guarantor backs a loan, have proven successful in driving private investment into small businesses, infrastructure, health care facilities and in some instances housing.

“We know that loan guarantees have the power to de-risk investments and drive down the overall cost of debt financing,” said Daniel Heimpel, Good River Partners’ Managing Director. “This is a powerful tool that we believe can improve the housing crisis afflicting states across the Country.”

The Grant will allow Good River to collate examples of loan guarantees at work in various contexts and explore those models’ applicability in housing development and preservation.”

“We are committed to supporting bold solutions to housing affordability and we believe loan guarantees hold great promise,” said Amaya Bravo-France, who works within CZI’s Housing Affordability Portfolio. “We are proud to support Good River in researching and telling the story of this promising tool.”
